New S/4HANA starter program

In 2018 and 2019, SBN held a number of sessions for our members on SAP’s programme to help customers start their journey to S/4 HANA. SAP named the programme S/4 HANA Adoption Starter and was a 90-day initiative, which used a methodology and pre-packaged tools, combining a virtual classroom with self-guided steps to help customers structure and assess their transformation. The initial beneficiary of this initiative from SAP was the German SAP User Group (DSAG) but SAP soon extended it to an international audience. The deliverable from the 90-day initiative was a transformation plan that covered business, technical, and transformation views. The programme was free to all SAP customers with a valid SAP maintenance contract. While the programme enjoyed some success, particularly in Germany, it did not prove to be especially popular in Norway or the other Nordic countries. The main criticism we heard from our member companies was that the programme took too long and required too much resource and this was difficult to justify for business decision makers.

In devising their new programme to help customers start their S/4 HANA journey, SAP S/4 HANA Value Starter, SAP have clearly listened to their customers. The programme is much shorter, more focused and SAP does the majority of up front work for you. Here is an article, from SAP, introducing SAP S/4 HANA Value Starter with some useful links for further reading.

To keep the engagement short and efficient for you, SAP creates an outside-in analysis ahead of the SAP S/4HANA Value Starter Engagement. Here we highlight and recommend the new SAP S/4HANA capabilities that best support your strategic goals. It also includes a Process Discovery summary, your specific product map, and an outside-in value assessment.
This outside-in analysis serves as a starting point for a fact-based conversation with you and SAP experts to verify and adjust the results in the upcoming SAP S/4HANA Value Starter Engagement.
The SAP S/4HANA Value Starter Engagement consists of remotely offered workshop sessions spread over three half days. On the first day, you will get the chance to experience the power of real-time enterprise collaboration and new business processes with the SAP S/4HANA Simulation game that runs on a live SAP S/4HANA system.
The subsequent workshop sessions address the questions WHY, WHAT and HOW to MOVE by discussing your customer-specific analysis. Furthermore, the workshop enables you to identify possible capabilities to achieve your strategic goals and calculate the resulting financial benefits.

As a result of the SAP S/4HANA Value Starter Engagement, you will be able to create your own transition path and deployment strategy for your successful SAP S/4HANA migration. The SAP S/4HANA Value Starter program is free of charge to any customer with an active maintenance contract.
