The cloud-based digital HR solution SAP SuccessFactors will assist Semler Group in attracting, retaining, and developing talent as the business and the market for vehicles, solutions, and servicing evolves.

Challenge

Semler Group is the leading automotive company in Denmark, importing, selling, and servicing over 20 well-known automotive and major agricultural machinery brands, from Porsche, Audi, and John Deere to Škoda, Volkswagen, and Väderstad. One in four new cars on Danish roads originates from Semler Group and it is among Denmark's 40 largest companies in terms of revenue.

Semler Group is a family-owned company that has been around for more than a century and has ambitious goals for the next 100 years. "Cars and machines are only part of our business. Semler Group consists of more than 2,700 passionate employees, all working for better transport and machinery solutions. We have mechanics, sales consultants, combine harvester specialists, and everything in between," says Maria Kofod Larsen, Executive Vice President, People, Communications, and ESG at Semler Group.

Solution

"We used to say that within Semler Gruppen, you could become anything, you just didn’t know how." Maria Kofod Larsen explains and continues: “This is now changing as SAP SuccessFactors will give us a consolidated digital HR solution. It will give us all the tools we need to help our employees, regardless of their location. Previously, it was based on gut feeling but now we get a data-based picture of what the individual employee needs, how they work, and last but not least what motivates them.”

With its SAP SuccessFactors solution, the individual is put at the center, so Semler can help each employee shape their own career within the company.

Semler chose to implement the SAP SuccessFactors suite, which covers the entire HR lifecycle, including Recruiting, Onboarding, Compensation, Performance and Goals, Document Management, and Succession. Effective People also implemented its Base Model Approach, a preconfigured SAP SuccessFactors solution built on best-practice guidelines based on in-depth experience from over 1,000 successful SuccessFactors implementations. With this approach, Semler connected the market's top cloud-based HR solution with the extensive knowledge and expertise of Effective People.

Semler also chose to implement SAP Qualtrics, which collects real-time data on employee experiences across engagement and lifecycles and takes the pulse of the organization. Effective People used its proven methodologies for rapid deployment, fully assisted Semler through its implementation, and provided ongoing post-implementation operational support and maintenance.

Results

"Our most important task is to attract, retain, and develop talent as the market and business evolve. We’ve experienced a huge transformation in recent years. This is why it is important that we have a comprehensive solution that can show us where we have opportunities for development, where we spot weaknesses and strengths. For example, looking at our mechanics, who in these years are gaining new knowledge and skills about electric cars" says Maria Kofod Larsen.

She concludes, "By knowing and developing our workforce, we keep up with a very volatile industry and at the same time maintain the focus on the individual. The SAP SuccessFactors solution becomes insurance both for us and the employee. We don't know what the future holds, but we’re now well-equipped to face it".
